When you visit China’s large cities, you may be overwhelmed by how modern they are. Skyscrapers framed in neon lights fill the skyline. Multi-lane highways circle the city centers that boast huge malls filled with the latest styles. Bridges filled with cars, trucks and buses loop overhead. But it’s when you visit the countryside that you will find old China with its 400 year old rice terraces, pagodas carved into the sides of a cliffs, men and women threshing rice by hand, cormorant fishermen wearing capes woven of palm fiber on the Li river. There are even a few old women who totter about on their bound feet.
