Maybe you would like to make a collage like this one. I began by making a bunch of small photographs that represented different countries. (Your collage doesn’t have to be about travel. It could be about anything or anyone.)
I laid out the photos, this way and that way. As I did, I got other ideas. Where was that money that I found in my pocket after going to India? How about my old passport? In one iteration, I had some beads from Morocco. I wished I had saved some stubs from the train ticket, or had a label from a candy bar that I ate in St. Petersburg. It had such a lovely embossed Russian design done in gold that I did think about saving it. I don’t save things like that. Or I didn’t. Now I will.
I do have my photos, though and I had fun arranging and rearranging them. Some I made to look like postcards or posters. Some like snapshots. It didn’t take long to get the arrangement to suit me. Once I had sort of a skeleton,(I left some open spaces) I decided to finish it on my computer. Then I could add and remove and bring certain images forward or backward. I did have one large photo as a background in case there were tiny gaps between my collage elements. Your background can be anything. It’s just a filler of colors.
