Trastevere 2015
Even Romans love the ambiance of Trastevere. Sidewalk cafes. Shops and espresso bars. Sidewalk vendors. Delicious food emporiums : cheeses, porchetta, gelato, wines. Massive churches that look like a Catholic church should look…candles, statues, frescoes, mosaic floors and votive offerings. All within walking distance to Campo Fiori, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.
We stayed in an apartment that we found on Air B&B. It was in an old apartment house. We had windows but they looked onto another apartment house. The only advantage was that I could see a bit of the kitchen in the next apartment and we could smell the delicious aroma of dinner being cooked.
We spent very little waking time in the apartment. My daughter is full of energy and I followed willingly as she hunted for the best pizza, the best gelato, the best leather, the best markets. She had the Rick Steves’ guide to Rome and using it we filled our days with memories to last a lifetime.
