Tibet 2007
Two Buddhist monks pass a mani wall as they circumambulate a monastery. Mani walls are built of stones; each stone is inscribed with a prayer by the person who places the stone on the wall. These walls of prayers are commonly found wherever there is a holy site. You can see some blue and orange paint on some of the rocks in front of the monks. These are prayer inscriptions.
The hats worn by the monks are designed to shade the eyes from the harsh sun of the high Tibetan altitudes. I had never seen those before…kind of like a baseball cap.
