Yunnan Province, China 2005
It rained, causing the mysterious, beautiful karst hills to fade into a dull blue gray. The rice paddies were a brownish yellow.
I remember our leader, Keren, remarking about the unusual circular rice paddy. My eye kept going to the farmstead in the foreground and I tried to make the image flow from the thousand hills to the rice paddies and farm house at the bottom. I was unimpressed with the photo until I Photoshopped it to this colorful “fairytale”. I love what ‘post-processing’ did to the colors. The mountains have come alive and so has my little farmer’s house. There is some noise at the top of the photo, but I don’t mind. It looks as if paint has dripped down and I like it. The colors are unbelievable. It seems as if anything goes these days and not just in photography. Good? Or Bad?
OK, I’m not to comment on every picture but this one is so strange I immediately thought of Shangri-La which is probably back , way back, in those mountains. I know it’s supposed to be in China but that’s probably why it hasn’t been found yet . Jerry
Hi, Jerry. You can comment as often as you like. Just don’t feel you must! Yes, those mountains do seem as if Shangri-La is nearby. I saw that movie when I was about 8 and I never forgot how wonderful Shangri-La seemed. When I watched it as an adult, I was disappointed. China has many karst mountain ranges, so does Viet Nam and the old Yugoslavia. No matter where they are they are beautiful.
Thanks for your note.
