The Marshes of the Camargue 2018
The gardiens would herd the horses through the water at a gallop. We would do our best to get our photos. Then the herd would have a rest. Many took advantage of the time to pet the horses or the horses would pet the photographers. They would come over to sniff our hair or lean their chin on our back or maybe try to gently head-butt us, perhaps a way to ask who we were.
I tried to use the time go get some photos of two or more horses interacting. This is something we don’t often get to see when horses are stabled. I looked for geometry. I had to be quick because horses, like flamingos, do not stay in the same position for long. And I had to anticipate where the horses might put their heads next.
I learned about geometry in photography from my favorite photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson. It works with people and things as well. And it makes your photo more interesting.
