The Russian Girl

Beauty attracts our eye. It’s ingrained. I could say it is genetic but then I know next to nothing about genetics. The only back up I have to the genetic thing is that studies have shown that even babies prefer a pretty face.

This young woman stood our from her tall, blond crew mates because of her sleek black hair arranged in a pony tail and bangs. It’s a hairstyle that says “I’m efficient”.  Full of energy, always smiling, eager to help…she is the only crew member I remember. I wanted to know more about her, but was shy to ask. I tried to catch a bit of her personality while she worked. She smiled to herself as she smoothed the tablecloth and set the vase of flowers. She took pleasure in her work.

Someone once told me that if you want something done and done well, get a woman named Mary to do it. I’m thinking this girl was named Mary. If you attended parochial school when the nuns were in charge, you will know what I’m talking about.

I turned this photo into a digital painting using Snap Art 3. It adds a solitary, faded, “remembering” quality. Are you thinking Edward Hopper? I am.
