The Great Wall of China

China's Great Wall with Lookout Towers

Great Wall with Lookout Towers

China 2007 North of Beijing

The Great Wall slithers up the mountain ridges like a dragon protecting the Chinese from an invasion by nomadic tribes.

What a lush landscape encloses the wall–you made a beautiful scenic photo! I remember how in 2007 the guide for our small tour group of 15 allowed us the grand total of 30 minutes to see the wall (at Jinshangling) and return to the bus… Luckily we revolted on the spot and demanded more. (What, 30 minutes to admire one of the Seven Wonders?) It took us at least 45 minutes to climb the steep huge blocks to the top. The eighth wonder of the world might be Chinese knees.

      Thanks for your comment, Judi.

This was shot when I went to the wall with two others, while the rest of our group shopped. I agree, we needed time. Luckily, our leader told us where a good viewpoint was.

Yikes, I see I’ve posted this shot before! And pretty much wrote the same thing.

It did take stamina to walk up the wall. I grabbed a man who wanted to make some money and paid him to carry my gear. Still I think I had to take a break now and then.

People spend a lifetime photographing the wall in all seasons and in all locations.
