Istanbul Turkey 2009
We got up early to get down to the Golden Horn for sunrise. The ferry arrived soon after we got set up. It was a perfect photo opportunity although we had come to shoot fishing boats. How could it get better than the ferry pulling into the quay in front of the Yeni Jami Mosque?
When we finished we bought some fresh simits (a sesame crusted ring of bread) and walked across the Galata Bridge in the cool air. It was the perfect start to two weeks in Turkey.
In looking at my photo now, I see that the two minarets of the Yeni Jami are echoed by the minarets of a mosque further up the hill. Did I plan that? No. I think someone who photographs landscapes would have noticed and planned. Me, I saw the ferry and the mosque and BINGO! pressed the shutter. It’s the golden color of the light and the mystique of a Byzantine city that attracts me.
