Parakeet as Fortune Teller

Noto, Sicily 2015

A chubby-cheeked boy lets me hold his parakeet. I’d never held a bird that small and I loved the parakeet and the chubby-cheeked boy.

The boy held a box of “fortunes” printed on tiny pieces of folded paper. The parakeet would choose oneĀ and that would be your destiny. I was curious about that because I’d seen the same ‘act’ in Cusco, Peru where a man had a similar box of fortunes but he had a monkey and a parrot as his helpers. I didn’t ask to see the parakeet choose a fortune. I just paid for the privilege of holding the bird and for kissing the sweet chubby-cheeked boy.
