The Color of Noto

a yucca in front of the golden walls of Noto Sicily

Noto, Sicily

Noto, Sicily 2015

Several potted yucca plants grew near the palacio walls. We had finished our tour of the palacio and were gazing at the ramp to the second story. There were no stairs in the palacio when it was first built, so visitors simply drove their horses and carriages up the ramp to the second floor. The large room that is now a ball room or a reception room (can’t remember) was where the guests descended and the drivers turned the carriages around to go back down the ramp….why didn’t I take a photo of the ramp???? My daughter and I marveled at the idea of driving horses and carriages up a two-story ramp.

The reason I want to show you this photo is: #1, for variety, I seldom show photos of flowers or plants. Reason #2 is that here you can get a better idea of the color of the stucco buildings of Noto. Though it was still midday when I shot this, I had indirect and reflected light. This  photo shows the golden color that is the true color of Noto. See? I told you it is beautiful.

One more thing: It’s a good thing to leave a bit of space between the ends of your flowers and the frame of the photo. In other words, don’t cut the tips of your flower “petals”. Try this and see if the photo doesn’t look more pleasing to you.
