Our news media is always talking about “the Arab street”, so I thought I’d show you what the Arab street looks like. This is Deir e Zor, a good sized town in eastern Syria, south east of Aleppo. The Euphrates river flows through the town and there are many little restaurants on the river banks.
I like the man who has spotted me and my camera. He’s not sure if he likes the idea of having his picture taken.
This was taken last year, before the ‘Arab Spring’. Things have changed in Syria. I hope it turns out for the benefit of the people who were friendly and hospitable.
