Temple at Luxor

Sunrise in Luxor

Luxor, Egypt 1989

I walked the short distance to the temple in hopes of getting the sun’s first rays on the golden stone. Another photographer had beat me. He already had his tripod set up and had an Egyptian man wearing a galabeya as a model.  He, the photographer, called to me to make it clear that it was his model and I was not to photograph him. I got that.

The soft light that morning didn’t impart enough drama for me so I (more than twenty years later) “Photoshopped” the slide to lend a ‘retro’ atmosphere.

I loved the drama of this one. What a morning—-and enlivened by a friendly fellow photographer. May he rot in hell. J.

I don’t blame him. He made plans and who am I to barge in on his model. I could photograph the temple all I wanted. He forced me to look for a different viewpoint. And I like my viewpoint.
