An elderly woman pours over her prayerbook at the Sergei Posad Monastery in the outskirts of Moscow.
Both of these portraits were shot without the subjects knowing. The woman was so engrossed in her prayers, that she didn’t notice me standing over her. I got several viewpoints. This is the first and my best. Sometimes instinct is the best way to go, but I always get more shots if I can. I never really know until I have the image on my computer.
The priests were quite far from me, but the younger one spotted me and came over to scold me. It was too late. I had the shot. The priests did not want to be photographed and I don’t blame them. They are not there for show, but how can you resist this kind of shot?
