Spinning Lotus Silk

Inle Lake, Burma 2011

The mill, surrounded by floating lotus plants, stood on wooden piers on the edge of Inle Lake. A few women spun and wove the iridescent fibers into goods to be sold to tourists. Because lotus silk is so expensive, they made a fabric of half lotus silk and half traditional silk.
