Smiling Faces

Rabari Boy in Blue Turban

One of the delightful characteristics of the Indian people is their willingness to be photographed. I never have the feeling that I am being a nuisance when I hold up my camera with a hopeful look. I know I will get a positive response and a dazzling smile.

Little Drummer Boy

Here are two Rabari boys. The small fellow was strolling through the gate to a Rabari temple and I asked him to stand by the ceremonial drum. He happily complied. I can’t help but smile myself when I look at this photo.

The boy in the blue turban was in his home village. He wasn’t wearing a turban. Young boys usually do not.  He wanted to be photographed and when I pointed to his head and made a gesture to indicate a turban, he grabbed up a shawl, and twisted it into a perfect turban. When he stepped into the light, I pressed the shutter.

These boys are so beautiful! Thank you for posting their pictures on your website. I see what you mean with the boy next to the drum; every time I look at his face, I can’t stop smiling. He has such an infectious smile! 🙂
