Separation and Composition

statue of Buddha at Ayutthaya Thailand

Buddha at Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya, Thailand 2007

Recently I was told to keep some space between objects in the foreground and background..in other words, don’t let them overlap. I had never heard of that “rule”. And maybe I’m easily influenced but, now that I’ve been told,  it seems to be a good idea.

Luckily I shot several angles of this statue…the shots were pretty much the same, however, this one was the only one where the head of the Buddha did not overlap the stupa. I have to admit it is the most pleasing angle.

Because I shot this at mid-day, character was lacking. Therefore: try black and white. That helped,  but the contrast was lacking. I used Alien Skin’s Exposure X to add a streaky filter which not only softened the contrast, it gave an interesting look to my etiolated (white) sky.
