Romania’s Village Museums

Thatched roof house of Romania in the village museum near Sibiu

Village Museum

Romania 2012

If there were a prize given for the cutest houses in the world, Romania would win easily. Romania’s many forests provided the material and the people who lived there became master woodworkers. Look at this home hidden in the forest. It’s magical, like something a wizard would live in or maybe a witch. It’s small, not much to clean, and the freshly thatched roof fills the house with a heavenly smell of fresh mown hay.

Romanians let their imaginations soar when it came to building homes and many of the old structures have been gathered into two village museums, one in Bucharest and this one near Sibiu. Don’t miss them when you visit Romania.
