Rangoon:Nuns with Angst

young Buddhist nuns holding their begging bowls peer out with anxious looks

Drama

Rangoon, Burma (Yangon, Myanmar) 2011

This was shot in a monastery in Rangoon. The young nuns lined up to receive a special lunch and no doubt their anxious expressions betray their fear that nothing would be left for them. I have the same feeling when I am in a buffet line, don’t you?

I gave this photo an aged look. It’s as if it had been shot a hundred years ago. Without color, the expressions on the lovely faces are heightened.  There is a drama that you’d never get with color.

Changing the ambiance of your photos is easy with plug-ins. Plug-ins is a term for software that enhances your Photoshop work. It makes your work go quicker for one thing and it presents you with myriad ideas and techniques at the click of a mouse. I recommend trying some of them to see if they open your eyes to new possibilities.

Some plug-ins to check out are:

Nik: http://www.niksoftware.com/nikcollection/usa/intro.html

Topaz: http://www.topazlabs.com/

Alien Skin: http://www.alienskin.com/

I use them all. Topaz is the least expensive and they have a huge variety of filters. Try the demos and have fun!
