Egypt 1998
Years ago there was a fad about the shape of a pyramid. Some people had the idea that the shape drew power from the cosmos or something like that. I didn’t really pay attention. When I was trying to get this photo to be a bit different from the thousands of other photos of the Great Pyramid, this oval glow developed. I liked it.
And I like the men on camel at the base of the pyramid…dots of color that show how large the stones are that compose the structure.
The disappointing thing about the pyramids is that they can be seen from the freeway leading into downtown Cairo. The freeway view takes all the mystery and glamour away. And then there are the tour busses and the long lines of tourists cluttering the foreground of the pyramids. To be honest though, I was in one of those lines.
I didn’t go into the crawl space to experience the inner pyramid. Nope. I’m too prone to claustrophobia for that. I could just see myself stuck on hands and knees trying to convince myself that the air supply was adequate as I waited for a tourist in the front of the line to overcome a panic attack. Too horrible to contemplate.
I used Topaz Labs Impression to get this painterly look.
