Tibet 2007: A Tibetan girl dressed in her best gown holds a Pashmina goat.
Our photo guide asked this young woman to pose; she was our translator. She brought several ethnic costumes on the trip and would dress up when we needed her to pose. Normally she wore western clothes, but said she wore these colorful, silk gowns for special occasions at home.
The goat is a Pashmina. The breed lives only at high altitude. We were told that a real pashmina shawl is woven from the soft hair of the goat’s chest and under his chin. A Kashmiri man, who had a shop in Thailand, showed me an embroidered Pashmina shawl with a price of $5000.00. The fabric was so soft that you could crumple the entire shawl in your fist. Kashmiri men had embroidered the delicate flowers.
