Panning

Panning shot: Burma, monks ride postillion on motorcycle

Going to the Temple

 Burma 2011

Learning to pan is not easy but it’s fun, especially when you are stuck waiting by the side of the road as I was.

Here are some basic instructions:  You need to follow the subject with your camera held to your eye. You want the subject to be sharp. Use a slow shutter speed…start at 1/30 sec. so you can get a streaky background blur. Have your shutter release on high continuous and fire away following the subject smoothly.  Check your results and slow your shutter speed if necessary to get a good background blur.

Maybe you will get lucky as I did on this day.

Nice job of panning. Half the fun is in achieving the blur/still contrast. Luck or not, you did that!
