Uzbekistan 2012 Between Bokhara and Samarkand
We saw many donkey carts and we were dying for a chance to photograph them. The best shots were of the carts in hayfields. Men and women would fork hay into the cart while the donkey waited patiently. I loved those scenes as they reminded me of my girlhood in South Carolina. Nothing is better than lying on top of a load of hay as horses pull you slowly homeward.
We never stopped for the hayfield shot. We kept thinking we’d see plenty of them. A good rule for both photography and shopping: Strike while the iron is hot. Torie insisted that we stop for this man and woman driving down the side of the highway and it’s a cute shot, but I still wish I had the hayfields.
I have to give Torie credit for telling our driver to stop when we were barreling down the highway. She was a bit hesitant at first but soon she overcame her reserve. I think it was easier for her as she is an only child. I was glad to have her take over this role.
