Oh, Happy Day!

Little White Cloud

Morocco, Erg Chebbi dunes 1998

If you ever go to Morocco, you must go to the Erg Chebbi. This is Morocco’s most beautiful landscape, in my opinion, and Morocco has many beautiful landscapes. The sun was setting here and I noticed this lonely little cloud lingering to get the last of the sun’s rays. It seems to be communicating with the dune beneath. The two seem to be saying that it had been a wonderful day.

The village of Merzouga is adjacent to the dunes and although you might think that the people, who have lived there for generations, no longer notice the dunes, they do. They can tell you which time of year the dunes are most colorful. They know when the dunes have enough moisture to drive 4×4’s over them. They know where hidden oases are and where the nomads camp. They know where abandoned French Foreign Legion forts crumble slowly into the desert. Some of them know where the Houbara Bustard makes its nest.

Although the composition of this photo did not change, I did use Alien Skin’s Snap Art 3 to enhance the graphic element.
