You are more likely to find craftsmen like this man if you leave the touristy part of the souk and explore the alleys which cater to the Fassi. (Fassi is the name for the denizens of Fes.) These older men gracefully allow their photos to be taken especially if you have a licensed guide. Most likely they will know each other and the two of them will take advantage of the time to catch up on the news.
It’s worth the twenty or so dollars to hire a guide. Make sure you tell him you don’t want to shop right from the get-go.
