If you are lucky, your dressage arena has mirrors at one end and maybe one on the long side as well. There are some extremely talented riders who know if they are getting the most out of their horse and themselves, but most riders need feedback from a trainer or a mirror.
Here a rider passes in front of a mirror as she warms up for her turn in front of the judge. I loved the look of the reflection and tried many times to catch the reflection of horse and rider. It was a matter of timing.
Shoot in bursts and try to begin your burst at the perfect time, otherwise your horse will never be in the perfect position. You want his body to be collected, his weight to be on his haunches and his legs under his body or else at the peak of extension.
I’ve had a special request for more horse photos, so I’ll be “specializing in horses” for the next few blogs. I read once that the world is divided into two categories: Horse People and the others. I hope you are one of the former and that you enjoy looking at these beautiful animals.
