Eastern Mongolia 2014
This landscape was perfect for black and white because the late evening sun highlighted the middle range of mountains and the lower range of clouds: a nice altering of gray tones.
Key to good landscape shots is depth of field. Use the smallest aperture you can. That’s where your tripod comes in. Focus 1/3 into the scene and all should be in sharp focus if the wind isn’t blowing the grasses and if you have a steady camera. Check your depth of field by using the button on your camera for just this situation. If possible have something in the foreground to add to the feeling of depth. I don’t think I needed any foreground addition here, but maybe a yurt somewhere in the first third might have been nice.
