The Medieval Habit

Islamic women wearing chador leave a mosque in Istanbul

Still in Fashion

Istanbul, Turkey  1993  A group of Turkish women dressed in chador leave a mosque.

I show these photos today for two reasons. One is to show the medieval garments worn by two religions. Of course, the laity of the Orthodox Church do not wear the habit. The laity of the Islamic religion, if they are conservative in their views, do wear the chador.

I always loved the photo of the Turkish women. It is a slide and I was lucky to catch the sunlight highlighting their faces and the sheen of their garments. The problem is that there were many distracting elements in the slide, tourists and Turks who distracted from my ethereal women in chador. Through the wonders of Photoshop, I was finally able to crop the image and make it what I wanted it to be.
