Khampa Tribe

Khampa men relax in downtown Yushou, in China's Quinghai province

Saturday Afternoon

A group of Khampa in downtown Yushou. The man in the fedora looks rather dashing, doesn’t he?

The Khampa are Buddhist and a Tibetan group. They are a warrior tribe. The men and women are tall and muscular. Traditionally men wear their hair long with a red scarf twisted through it. The women dress in deep hues of emerald green and fuschia and decorate their braided hair with huge medallions of turquoise and coral. Often the men dress as if they were American cowboys.  I’ll find those photos and show them to you on another day.
