Viet Nam village scene: A H'mong woman sewing

Woman of Sapa

Sapa, Viet Nam 2005

She wears glasses donated by charities in the west…discards from people who need a new prescription. Not sure how she finds a pair that suit her, maybe just trying on pair after pair.

She sits by her front door and makes a light weight blanket which the younger members of the family will try to sell to tourists.

I bought a similar blanket from a young woman who followed me for at least 2 miles as we walked through villages looking for photo opportunities. She asked me over and over to buy her blanket. Finally, I did. Not because I wanted it but because I admired the woman’s tenacity and gentle demeanor.
