For Mary

Young Burmese Laborer

Portrait of Burman with Moustache

Here is a  young Burmese man who was working on the construction job at our hotel. He and his friend were eating their lunch in the hotel garden. They jumped up when they saw me. At first, they were reluctant to have their photo taken, so maybe it was a bit of a trespass. This young man was bold and stared into my lens with an almost defiant gaze. Now, I’m thinking, he was proud of his moustache. Not many Burmese can sport such a hirsute upper lip.   Maybe that is the reason for the name of the shaving cream, Burma Shave. If you use it, your face is as smooth as a Burman’s.

rangoon girls raw file from camera

Before

Hi, Mary. This is the raw file from which I made yesterday’s “Rangoon Abstract”. If you shoot in Raw, you can do a lot in Camera Raw before taking the photo into Photoshop or whatever you use, but Photoshop is best!

See what I mean about WordPress?? I added the raw file in a smaller format and after that I couldn’t adjust the larger pic on this post. But you’ve helped me to discover something. I can add the horizontals as large as the originals if I don’t mind that they overlap the list of posts, and I don’t. I’m glad to find this out.

I never would have guessed that the women were walking from left to right in the abstract version of this picture. I thought that you had taken the photo from the back.

Your abstract version is much better – colors are more vibrant and the abstraction makes the picture much more intriguing.

      Hi, Mary.

At first I tried to keep a greenish, foggy look, but it didn’t work. Then I changed the colors, through saturation and hue, but the umbrellas blew out and became white blobs. I tried to fix them, but finally just went with the abstract idea. I like it, too. Still haven’t bought the special art paper. In fact, I don’t know where I saw it advertised.
      Best,
      Rosemary
