This is one of Win’s set-up shots. We were visiting this monastery in Mandalay. It was one of the old wooden monasteries decorated with carvings inside and out. Otherworldly.
Win saw this girl whose job it is to sell garlands of flowers to the faithful visiting the monastery. She ran home during a slack moment in her work, dressed in her best dress and made up her face with thanaka, the traditional Burmese cosmetic.
She had the presence of a high fashion model and made getting this photo easy. Win was not satisfied with only a few shots, and neither was I. When the others had had enough, he and I kept shooting as we were hoping for the perfect shot. That is illusive, as you know.
