Fishermen of Inle Lake

leg rowing fisherman Inle Lake Burma
Before the Rain

We got caught in the rain on this evening, but took shelter in a home in one of the many floating villages on Lake Inle. These fisherpeople are quite nimble and have great balance. Everyone has to learn to handle the small boats. Even little children paddle themselves over to Grandma’s house. Although I did see a slender young girl treading carefully over an island of floating water hyacinths. They sank with each step and the wind can move the ‘islands’ out to sea, so, they can’t be too stable.

This fisherman was not posed. He was at work. I think I like these photos best. But I’ll show you some posed photos so you can decide. “We report, you decide”…guess whose motto that is.

I’ve received some emails saying that you aren’t bored with Burma, so I’ll carry on for another week or two. Meanwhile, if you are interested in other places, let me know and I’ll make a special effort to find a photo for you.

This fisherman is for Torie.

I’ve uploaded some of my Burma photos to my portfolio on smugmug. Click here to see more Burma.
