Addis Ababa 2013
Teams of small donkeys with goods strapped to their backs can be seen all over the commercial districts of Addis Ababa. The owner of the donkeys has something like a livery stable and hires the animals out to shopkeepers. When a large purchase is made, the shopkeeper loads it onto the rented donkeys and they are driven to the purchaser’s home or business. By the time the shopper arrives home, the goods are being unloaded.
I shot this on the busy street in front of my hotel. The donkeys ignored traffic but I had to be assisted across the road by a young man.
