India 2003
I waited for this couple to be dwarfed by the huge doorway. I am still amazed by its size and grandeur. It was built to intimidate, to show that “Here Lies Power”.
I’m not sure of the name of this monument. I had the idea that it’s the tomb of Akbar the Great. I tried to check by looking at other photos of the tomb. That didn’t work out.
I remember that afternoon: walking through a huge ‘park’ as the English aristocracy call the groomed lands surrounding their stately homes. And I remember seeing deer and langurs, which are large gray monkeys. And I remember thinking that this place resembles the Taj Mahal.
Then again it could be a mosque in Fatehpur Sikri, a now deserted city built by Akbar.
