India 2009: Old men eat their lunch in a dark corner of an old building.
This photo reminds me of my first photo class. Our teacher emphasized the master photographers and often our class consisted of a slide show of the work of Strand, Stieglitz, Cartier-Bresson, etc. He encouraged us to visit photography galleries and museums. I had never heard of those photographers nor seen their work. It was eye-opening.
Once we attended a show of Sebastio Selgado’s work. I still remember looking at a portrait of two little Mexican girls dressed as angels for a religious pageant. Through the years, I have often gone to galleries. Now it’s easier. We can look at famous photographers on the internet.
You can learn from looking at the work of others…they don’t have to be famous. They can be your friends from next door.
Usually your comment will tell us what they are eating and where they got it. Apart from that I am not too interested in dark/light studies like this. Jerry
It’s the mood, Jerry. The men are in a group but they are not communicating…they are solitary despite their companions. It’s lonely and grim.
And it’s the shades of gray…from white to black. Maybe you have to have taken black and white classes to appreciate it.
Thanks for your opinion. Like Michael Medved, I like a contrary opinion.
