Brasov Romania

Brasov street with tiled roofs and converted gas street lamps

Old Town Brasov

Brasov, Romania 2012

Brasov was the last city I visited before returning to Bucharest for that lonely Easter weekend. Like Sibiu, Brasov could be called a living museum for the Saxon peoples who settled here a thousand years ago. Quaint shops and homes with red-tiled roofs line the curved streets of the city dominated by the famed gothic Black Church.

To enhance a feeling of old Romania, I  lifted my lens until the street was no longer in my frame.  Later, when I studied the photo, I noticed the old street lamps with their curved supports. Now I wish I’d gone back and shot some close-ups of the architecture on this lovely old street. If I go to Romania again, I’ll remember. I hope. But for now, the rooftops and the windows of the old buildings tell the story I was looking for. Romania’s past is still present.
