Bokhara, Uzbekistan 2012
The gateway leads to the interior of a trading dome. These are large areas in the labyrinth of the old market where the ceilings are high and winds can blow through cooling merchants and customers alike. There were four trading domes. Only three remain and they are named for the merchandise once sold in them: The money changer dome, the jewelry dome and the hat maker dome.
Now all sorts of merchandise is sold in the trading domes…mainly for tourists. The good thing is that the merchandise is Uzbek made, although you might check carefully when buying a silk scarf.
It took me forever to find a photo to put on the blog today. I’m always second-guessing myself. I started two or three but wasn’t satisfied with any of them. I finally changed this one to black and white. The color was ok, but then the scene inside the door of the trading dome stood out too much. In black and white, it seems to me, the sky and the shape of the architecture takes precedence.
I’m having problems with my photos from the Stans. I’ve lost quite a few memory card’s worth due to mistakes on my part. The first mistake is never to delete your cards until you are sure you have them on your computer. It is cheaper in the long run to buy extra cards to carry you through your trip. Oh, if only I had done that instead of relying on an image storer.
I’m hoping I can get the photos off the hard drive of the image storer, but I’m preparing myself for the worst. And can you tell me why it was the photos that I most wanted that are the ones that didn’t download??? It was the same with film. The best one always had some kind of blotch from improper winding of the reel or they tore, or I cut the film too short or a million other reasons to make me berate myself.
I’m trying to be upbeat….
