Birds of a Feather

Flamingos Wading

France 2018

There is a bird sanctuary near the town of Saints Marie de la Mare.  My daughter and I visited it twice. We wanted a shot of flamingos flying and although our lenses were not long enough, we did get some good shots on the second visit.

But here is part of the flock as they wait to be fed. These birds had yellow eyes…I don’t remember the ones in the zoo here in California having yellow eyes. Turns out there are six types of flamingo and this is the one with yellow eyes. Their feathers were not as pink as those birds who are kept in the zoo but their legs were very colorful.

And they never stood still! They were preening, clucking, flapping, eating and the males were trying to impress the females by fluttering their feathers.

I did some “post-production” on this shot and made it nearly psychedelic. I like it. I made a print and I love to look at it. The colors and the curve of their long necks plus their interesting beaks. Let’s face it. I love flamingos.
