Bird’s Eye View

two boats filled with produce traverse Inle Lake

In Tandem

We stayed in a hotel on the lake at Inle. I think it was the Sky View. The rooms were bungalows on stilts hovering over the lake. Sometimes, when some larger, heavier long tailed boats sped past, our bungalow would sway in their wake. We, being from southern California, are used to having our house move when we are asleep, though.

We traveled everywhere by boat. It was luxury to sit under those gorgeous skies, as we sped past floating villages, pagodas and fishermen. We ate lunch at a restaurant on the lake. It had three stories, was open sided and the perfect place to shoot the lake traffic.

Here is a shot from one of those lunch times. The girls in the boats knew we were taking their photo and they were giggling as all girls tend to do.  These shots were not only a unique viewpoint, but we had plenty of time to compose and re-shoot.

Burmese food is a cross between Chinese and Indian. Curries, but not hot ones unless Win told the cook that we were gustatory sissies, fried rice or noodles, tempura vegetables, egg rolls, cashew chicken and lots of rice. One thing I learned to like is quail eggs. We’d have them in soup or in a salad. Those are delicious! We drank coke, tea or lime sodas. As photographing with Win was a challenge, I looked forward to lunch even more than I normally do.  At the end of the trip, Win ordered a traditional noodle dish for his breakfast. I love noodles, so I ordered the same. The noodles were dressed with a spicy, fishy sauce. Oh, so good!
