Beauty is Fleeting

Contemplation

Delhi, India 2009  A ceremony in a Sufi mosque

We were taken to this mosque somewhere in the heart of Delhi to hear Qawali music. The songs praise God, Mohammed and other Muslim figures. They are accompanied by a type of accordion called a harmonium, drums and sometimes wooden castanets (in Rajasthan).

I love the sound of those wooden  castanets. They are just two small pieces of wood, unconnected. Once I tried to ‘play’ a pair. Impossible for me, but even little boys can play them.

I like this photo because it seems to tell us that the beautiful girl will, one day,  resemble the middle-aged woman who sits behind her.  Looking at her fresh face, it seems that her beauty will live forever or perhaps she will become more beautiful. When you are young, you can’t imagine looking old, thank goodness.

Good thing I read your comments or else I would have completely missed the older lady seated on right. Lovely young girl. Wonder how old she is. Very nice photo. Jerry
