Ashamed

Sometimes Word Press has a mind of its own!! I up dated the software this am and now it won’t do what I tell it to do.

I titled this “Ashamed” because sometimes I am ashamed when I photograph someone like this woman who was minding her business at a bus stop in Yaroslavl, Russia. I am sure that if I’d asked her permission, she’d have told me, “NO!” And even if she’d said yes, the mood…the whole “Mother Russia” mood…would have evaporated.

She has suffered under communism and now suffers under some version of capitalism because her paltry pension no longer covers expenses. Yet, she endures with strength and resolution. Those Ukrainians who think that life will be better under Putin should talk to  her first!

She is one of the many people whom I have photographed who linger in my mind. The ones who carry on, who deal with harsh reality and make the best of it, who inspire me to appreciate all that I have. The Russian word under the  photo means, WHY? I hear her asking me why I am taking her photo, and them I am ashamed…a bit…but only a bit because I love her portrait.
