Archimede Fountain in Ortygia

Ortygia, Sicily 2015

We passed the fountain every day: on our way to the bank, to the market to buy freshly baked ricotta cheese and crusty bread, to have coffee in our favorite place (hint: they sold good pastry). Sometimes, if I weren’t too tired as we trudged homeward, I’d make a half-hearted attempt at photographing the fountain. On the last day, I tried harder and got these shots.

The background is important as you know. I tried to get a pleasing arrangement of the buildings when I shot the wide view of the fountain. What I didn’t know was that the buildings are examples of Baroque architecture.  If I had known, I might have tried harder to emphasize them…but the light is a factor and the way the statue of Diana faces is also a factor. And let’s face it: people are my favorite.

Wish I was there with U to eat that deliscious crusty bread and ricotta cheese. Looking forward to more pics.

      Thanks, Helen.
You’d have loved Italy, especially the island of Ortygia. My daughter kept saying, “It’s so medieval!” Thanks for checking my site!
      Best, Rosemary
