Monarch Cave, Utah 2013
Mineral stains from centuries of rain and snow formed intriguing designs on the roof of the sandstone cave where the Anasazi had built their fortress. This shot includes part of the fortress roof. A fir pole or maybe Pinon pine or even cottonwood (I forgot to ask) supports the reed roof which was then covered with mud or hide or maybe a woven basket sort of cover. Forgot to ask that, too. Details don’t occur to me when I am photographing. I focused on trying to compose, trying not to lean back too far to avoid falling headlong into the canyon.
