Uzbekistan: Aral Sea 2012
The Aral sea was once one of the earth’s largest lakes with an area of 23,000 square miles. The Soviets dammed the rivers which fed the lake causing it to shrink to about 10% of its original size. Once it provided a livelihood for fishermen in the region but no more.
