A Turkish Woman

Istanbul: a woman sells pigeon food at the entrance to Yeni Jami

Istanbul, Turkey 2008

I used Topaz Impressions 2 to get this sketched look. I masked her face because I wanted to show her calm and rather stoic expression. She’s unfazed…used to having her photo taken by tourists. Although she probably lives in Istanbul, she is dressed like a village woman.  She could be a character in Orhan Pamuk’s book, “A Strangeness in My Mind”.

Such an archetypical Turkish lady. Beautiful. Is she waiting at a bus stop?

Hi, Torie. She sells pigeon food outside Yeni Jami mosque…near the Spice bazaar. I think the Turks were the ones who enjoyed feeding the pigeons. She is handsome and I’ve always liked the shot but I like it better with the splashes of orange on what were the gray/white walls of the mosque.
