Twilight in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan 2012

Torie loved these little trailer like houses. We’d see them sitting forlornly in the middle of an empty prairie or next to a railroad track. They looked, to me, to be an old railroad car with the wheels removed. I think Torie was hoping to see a family of gypsies living in one and then she would make us stop to photograph them.

This photo is near a crossroads and if I’m not mistaken the sign on the yurt advertises piroshky, a Russian savory pie. Let me tell you, they are delicious and if anyone had been selling them, I’d have bought one.  But the place was closed. I don’t remember why we stopped, maybe Torie insisted because she was afraid we wouldn’t see anymore of these little trailer-houses.

Issyk Kul Lake

We were on one of our morning photo hunts. We’d go for a walk before breakfast to try to get the good light. We walked to the shore of the lake. The water was not very choppy, but I softened it because I’d been told recently that smooth water enhances your photo. I got carried away with the smoothing and used Topaz Simplify to smooth the whole photo…I was hoping for a graphic look.

Kyrgyzstan is roughly the size of Oregon with a population of 5 million. It remains rural and unspoiled. If you love the outdoors, you’ll love Kyrgyzstan. For tours of the country, click on www.uzbekjourneys.com Penelope can help you plan a visit to this remote, beautiful land.
