Elephant At Work

retro version of elephant with mahout working in forest of Thailand

NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE

Thailand 2007

Thailand has several elephant camps in the area of Chiang Mai. I visited one and watched the elephants being put through their paces by their mahouts. The elephants are no longer needed as work animals in the logging industry as the teak forests have been over cut. Now the Thai government is trying to regrow the teak trees and the mahouts and their elephants have gone into  the tourist business.

Don’t you love the expression on the elephant? He seems to be trying to do the best job he can.

I used Alien Skin’s Exposure 5 to give this a retro look. I would like to print it on a coarse manila paper to make it look as if I’d torn it from an old book.
